BVBL reports that Gerry Connolly has decided to reveal his true agenda, which will include raising the gas tax to pay for transportation improvements. Connolly made this comment on WTOP's Politics Program with Mark Plotkin. Connolly said, "If the gas tax is the way we do that, so be it. It hasn't been raised in a long time," Connolly said. "I hate to talk about raising taxes first thing out, but we have to stabilize the revenue source for the Federal Highway Trust Fund."
Now, why didn't Gerry share this with the voters in the 11th district before last Tuesday? Connolly should know that raising taxes is not the solution to the transportation crisis. Cutting back on unnecessary programs is the first step to the crisis, so that more money will be available. Anyone with common sense would know this, but Gerry doesn't realize this and his DC office phones will be ringing off the hook for the next two years with angry complaints from his constituents.
